The Actual Fields

Some of the orginal statements were clear opinions on what the students might think about school, but some of them just indicated general emotions. The original statements were in Finnish, but here are a few translated examples, in which the meanings have been attempted to be kept the same. The Finnish version of statement 27 can be understood in three different ways.

At school...

2.
The teachers treat us equally
3.
I enjoy going to school
7.
The teachers encourage me
9.
The teachers treat me nicely (or fairly)
11.
I am lonely (or I feel myself isolated from others)
22.
Learning is fun
24.
I enjoy doing homework
27.
Occasionally I get nervous (or get irritated or lose my temper)

The other fields in the records contain basic information about the person answering: which school, male/female, living in a city or on the countryside, properties of the school and class, and highest education degrees of the parents. There are a couple of additional fields indicating the time spent watching TV and if the student has a chance to use a computer outside school.
